Letters in Spanish Alphabet - The letters of the Spanish alphabet are very similar to that of the English.  Two characters were removed from the letters of the Spanish alphabet in 1994 (ch and ll). That leaves only two characters (ñ and rr) that are not used by the English.


Still, many textbooks do not agree on what should be included in the list of letters in the Spanish alphabet. Not all lists include W and K, since words containing them had foreign origins, such as kilo and wáter. The ñ was originally written as a shortened version of double N's, which was an N with a little N written above it.

If you know the English ABC's, you should have little trouble learning the letters in the Spanish alphabet. The former members of the list, ch and ll, are included in the list below.

B and V are both pronounced the same way. Colorful names are used to distinguish between the two. Names like "B de burro" and "V de vaca", as well as "B grande" and "V chica".
